Day 2: Physical Goals

Welcome to day 2 of our 5-Day Stay-Home Writing Retreat!

Today we're going to "get physical" by setting some body-related goals. That's right -- writing isn't just an act of mental magic. To write, you must use your body.  Yet many of us tune out our bodies when we write: twisting them into strange postures, leaving them sitting in one position for far too long, neglecting physical exercise in favor of staying at the keyboard just a little bit longer.

So today and every day for the rest of this week, I hope you'll move around frequently, stretch your muscles often, and take care of that precious body that carries your brain around.  You can double-dip by combining your physical goals with your social goal: maybe meet up with a writing buddy for some post-writing stretching over Zoom or a walk-and-talk by phone?

Kick off your writing day by watching the short Before Writing video below. At the end of your writing day, please return to this page to watch the After Writing video, which will take you through a brief reflection on your progress thus far.
