Helen Sword

About the author

Helen Sword is a scholar, award-winning teacher, and poet who has published books and articles on modernist literature, higher education pedagogy, digital poetics, and academic writing. Born and raised in Southern California, she received her PhD in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and is now Professor and Director of the Centre for Learning and Research in Higher Education at the University of Auckland. A passionate advocate of creativity and craftsmanship in scholarship, teaching, and the arts, Helen received the University of Auckland's 2007 Teaching Excellence Award for Innovation in Teaching and the 2013 HERDSA-TERNZ Medal for a scholar who has made a major impact on the tertiary education research environment of New Zealand. Her popular academic writing workshops for faculty and doctoral students have taken her to more than 60 universities and conferences in 17 countries across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australasia.
